Privateers defeated by Stevens
by Joseph DeBenedictis
Throggs Neck, NY – The Privateers gave up 41 points in the first half in an easy win for Stevens 81-23 in a Skyline Conference game Wednesday night in Throggs Neck. The Ducks were led by freshman guard Jackie Pannell (Bloomfield, CT/Suffield Academy) with 24 points and freshman forward Kelsey Wilks (El Sobrante, CA/Salesian) had a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.
The Ducks owned Maritime for the entire game even though they only had eight girls dressed to play. Steven nearly shot 50 percent from the field while the Privateers were kept under 20 percent. Junior center Alissa Bello (Rockaway, NY/Poly Prep) had a team high seven points for the Privateers, however it could be a huge loss for the Privateers as it appears that she could be done for the year with an injury she sustained during the second half.
Maritime will travel with their men's team on Saturday to take part in a Skyline double header against school rival USMMA-Kings Point.
