THROGS NECK, NY - In the first half, Wagner was first to score on a breakaway try.  Maritime struggled to maintain possession in the rucks against Wagner's larger, deliberate forwards, subsequently allowing a successful penalty goal and two more trys.  Sophomore Patrick Walsh (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) eventually drew first blood for the privateers with an uphill battle to the try-line.  Wagner would score again, leading 29-7 at the half.

With the wind at their backs, Maritime would receive the ball to start the second half. Throughout most of the half, the match appeared stalemated with both teams continuously gaining and losing ground.  As Wagner pummeled the rucks, Maritime eventually lost both their 8-man and flanker to penalties.  Down two players, (15 vs. 13), Sophomore Scrum Half rallied the Privateers and held Wagner in a fierce deadlock.  .  Sophomore Lock Patrick Walsh (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) would score his second try of the match to make the score 29-14.  Shortly thereafter, Sophomore Scrum-Half Patrick Alfisi put up another try for the Privateers.  Still down a man in the scrum and fraught with injuries, versatile Sophomores Anthony Maiello (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and Nicholas Sicilian (/) adapted to new positions, escalating the game with speed and intensity.  Senior Captain Thomas Toomey (Queens, NY/Xavier) led the backs with clever passing and endurance, setting up Sophomore Mike Bruederlein to score Maritime's fourth try of the match.  With just minutes left in the game, Junior Full-Back Bobby Welch would complete a penalty goal to tie the match.

With just seconds left on the clock and a tie score, the Privateers refused to be beaten.  Maritime received the ball and worked it downfield to Wagner's 5-meter line.  With a line-out to Wagner and no time left, Wagner won their lineout.  Sophomore Flanker Anthony Maiello (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) trounced Wagner's scrum-half and touched the ball down, scoring the go-ahead try of the match.  Sophomore Full-back Bobby Welch kicked his game-ending fourth conversion for the afternoon, boosting the Privateers to a 36-29 victory.
