THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2009) – On Senior Day at the Riesenberg Gymnasium Tuesday night, Maritime’s lone graduating-senior Marissa Danzy led her team of four years to an exciting, come-from-behind victory over Yeshiva, 3-2. With the win, the Privateers end the season with a 4-17 record, while the Maccabees fall to 3-14.
The scores of the match were 25-18, 17-25, 10-25, 25-23, 16-14.
Danzy picked up a match- and season-high 13 kills and led all players with six blocks in her last ever collegiate match. Freshman Jerrica Romero had a match-high 19 assists which was also her highest total of the season, while just missing a double-double by picking up nine digs. Junior Natalie Warren led the Privateers’ defense with 21 digs, while freshman Lauren Johnson had 17 digs, 7 kills and 4 assists. Freshman Gina Campbell recorded a career-high 11 digs and junior Kotomi Pestridge recorded five assists and eight digs. Freshman Donna Pellegrino had four kills and three blocks in the win.
The match came to an end in an exciting fifth set that saw Maritime hanging on by a thread, as Yeshiva gained match-point at 14-10. The Privateers earned six straight points to claim the victory.
