THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2009) – SUNY Maritime men’s lacrosse head coach Dan Lawrence has announced the captains for the 2010 season: seniors Colin Gallagher (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), Lawrence Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) and juniors Taylor Beaudette (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) and Andrew Marklin (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown). All four were chosen by the coaching staff for their consistent outstanding dedication and hard work.
Gallagher is a three-year starter in net for the Privateers and will be continuing as captain for his second year. He is coming off a junior campaign he amassed 180 saves and a 54-percent save percentage and was once named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week. Gallagher has been the unquestioned leader and backbone of the Privateers defense for the past three years.
Montreuil is also returning for a second year as a captain for the Privateers. He is a three-year starter at attack. Last year, he was tied team-lead in goals scored, assists and points. He totaled 29 goals, 15 assists and 44 points. He was also named to the All-Skyline Conference first team – his second time earning all-conference honors. Montreuil has been one of the most consistent offensive players the last three years. He has never finished lower than third on the team in points in any season at Maritime. He has career totals of 83 goals and 50 assists.
Beaudette, a junior, is a captain for the first time. He was the team’s starting LSM last year as a sophomore. Beaudette scored two goals and assisted on one last season, while picking up 59 ground balls and causing 16 turnovers. For his play last year, he was selected to the All-Skyline Conference first team. Beaudette’s athletic ability has enabled him to become one of the top LSM in the conference and has given Maritime another threat in the transition game.
Marklin will be a captain for the first time. A junior midfielder, he was the third-leading scorer at the midfield position for the team last year. He scored 11 goals and had five assists with 30 ground balls on the year. Marklin is one of the toughest two way midfielders on the team. His complete game allows the coaching staff to play him in any area of the game, whether it is on offense, defense, EMO, MDD or faceoff. He will look to lead the midfield unit this year.
The Privateers begin the 2010 season on the road against the Warriors of Lycoming College in Westport, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
