Brandon Middelton Selected as D3 Independent Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete for Men's Lacrosse

THROGS NECK, NY – Senior defenseman Brandon Middelton (Davidsonville, MD/South River) has been selected as the DIII-Independent Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s lacrosse. Eight schools make up the Independent category, all SUNY schools; Canton, Cobleskill, Farmingdale, Maritime, Morrisville, Old Westbury, Purchase, and SUNYIT. Student-Athletes from 13 sports are nominated from each school, and then voted upon by the Athletic Directors at the institutions. The award was created in 2003 to recognize the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes. Although there is no specific criteria for being nominated, the candidates typically have a GPA of a 3.66 and above, and are also part of an All-Conference Team, All-Tournament Team, or received other recognition for their outstanding play.
Brandon is a senior who earned a degree in Marine Transportation from Maritime, and was also named to the All-Skyline Second Team. Middelton transferred to Maritime from the Coast Guard Academy before the start of his junior year, and was Maritime’s lock-down defender for the past two seasons. He helped the Privateers to an 11-5 record and berth into the ECAC Tournament his junior year, after the team finished 6-7 the year before. This year, he started all 12 games he played in and picked up 25 ground balls to go along with his 11 caused turnovers. He assisted on one goal while taking 4 shots, 3 of which were on goal.
SUNY Purchase, SUNY Farmingdale, and SUNY Old Westbury were the only other schools to have Scholar-Athletes. The award winners were:
