The Maritime rugby team finished the fall 2009 season with an even 4-4 record and a fourth place finish in Division III of the Metro New York Rugby Football Union. The Privateer ruggers exploded out to a 3-0 start, but faced a tougher schedule the rest of the way, including the top three teams in the conference the last three weeks.

In the middle of the season, Maritime defeated its local-rival from across the Long Island Sound, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, in a 20-minute friendly scrimmage, 5-0.

Maritime received tremendous contributions all season long from co-captains Christian Ciferri and Jared O'Haire as well as grad. students Peter Rose and Thomas Toomey and senior James Salka. The Privateers will return to the pitch in the Spring 2010 season.
