SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2010) – The Maritime women’s soccer team, coming off its most successful season to date with eight wins in 2009, opened the 2010 campaign with a 13-0 loss to the Union College Dutchwomen Wednesday night in Upstate New York. The loss moves the Privateers record to 0-1 on the season, while Union opens the year 1-0.
Maritime was held to just one shot on goal during the game by sophomore forward Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca). Junior goalie Ashley Edington (Bayshore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) recorded eight saves in the losing effort.
The Dutchwomen got a hat trick from Taylor Bresnahan, while two players scored two goals in the victory, Jessica Strang and Katie McLean. In total, nine different Union players scored goals.
Up next for the Maritime women’s soccer team is a road trip to Maine where the squad will face Unity College on Saturday in Unity, Maine, at noon, before traveling to Gorham, Maine, on Sunday for a matchup against Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
