NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 3, 2013) – The Skyline Conference announced it's first weekly honors for the 2013 season on Tuesday, with two representatives from the Maritime women's soccer team earning distinction for the first week of the year.
Â
First, sophomoreÂ
Kristen Hoar (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East)Â earned co-Rookie of the Week honors for her performance in her first career game on Saturday afternoon against Thomas (Maine). The first-year Privateer recorded 12 saves on 13 shots on goal against the Terriers and helped Maritime to its first win of the season in a 2-1 victory.
Â
Hoar becomes only the second-ever Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week to wear a Maritime uniform, joiningÂ
Kaitlin Murray '11, from mid-October in 2007.
Â
Joining Hoar with Skyline Conference recognition this week was seniorÂ
Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), who scored both goal in the 2-1 win over Thomas to propel her team to victory after trailing at the halftime break. For Trenkamp, it was career goals number 54 and 55 as she continues to add to her lead as the top goal-scorer in program history.
Â
This is the 12th time in Trenkamp's career that she has been selected to the weekly honor roll and 13th honor overall after being named conference player of the week in the first week of November 2011.
Â
Hoar, Trenkamp and the rest of the Privateer women's soccer team will be back in action tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. on Reinhart Field as they take on Lehman in the 2013 home opener. Prior to the contest the squad will be honoring former teammate Kelly Swedalla, as part of the second annual memorial game in her honor.
