SAYVILLE, N.Y. – The Maritime women's cross country team recorded 247 points on Sunday afternoon, as the team took eighth place of 12 teams at the Skyline Conference Championship meet hosted by St. Joseph's (LI) at Broadway Avenue Park.
The team's eighth place finish is a one-place improvement from last season's ninth place finish at the 2015 championship meet.
Sophomore
Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) was Maritime's top finisher as she posted a time of 28:07.85 as she took 32nd place individually at the meet. Freshman
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) was the second Privateer to finish, as she took 38th place with a time of 28:30.56.
Sophomore
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was the third finished for Maritime with a time of 30:10.78 as she finished in 60th position. Sophomore
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) registered a time of 31:02.13, while rookie
Leigh Kouril (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) rounded out the scoring positions for the Privateers with a time of 31:49.53.
Freshman
Erin Teige (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Dominican Academy) clocked in with a time of 36:18.70, while sophomore
Riley Huang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) had a time of 40:17.26.
Maritime finished ahead of Purchase, Mount St. Vincent, Old Westbury and St. Joseph's (Bklyn) at the event. Farmingdale clinched its first-ever women's title as the Rams picked up 51 points on the afternoon, Mount St. Mary finished in second with 82 points, while St. Joseph's (LI) took third place with 86 points overall.
Following the Skyline Conference Championship Meet, the Maritime women's cross country team will look ahead to its final event of the season at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals on Saturday November 12, when the team takes to the course on the Rowan University campus in Southern New Jersey.
