Privateer Pete's Background
On December 12, 1952 a Maritime student wrote in the school's newspaper, The Porthole, about naming the Maritime sports teams the Privateers. The student body then voted the "Privateers" as the official mascot of the school. After a rebranding of our logos in 2005, Privateer Pete made his first physical appearance on campus. Today you can find him at many athletic events throughout athletic season!
