The Maritime football team gathered at The ESPN Zone in Times Square earlier this week to celebrate the successful 2009 season and to hand out the team awards. The night began with dinner, followed by a highlight video of the Privateers’ memorable season in which the squad compiled a 6-4 record, the first winning record in program history.

2009 marked the best season in Maritime football history, as fifth-year head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes and his staff led the squad to their first winning season ever. The Privateers finished the year with a 6-4 mark (3-3 ECFC) and were one win away from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference championship game.

The Maritime football team had a conference-best 13 players named to the all-ECFC post season teams, as announced by conference officials on Friday. The Privateers had five members named to the all-conference first teams (three on offense and two on defense), while leading all conference school with eight players on the all-ECFC second team (three on offense and five on defense). In addition, three players were also named all-conference honorable mentions.

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced on Monday that Maritime senior co-captain Mike Oehl-LB (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown West) was named the Week Ten ECFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Privateers season-ending loss to Gallaudet, 16-13, this past Friday night at Reinhart Field.

The Maritime football team lost its season-finale to Gallaudet in the final minute of play Friday night at Reinhart Field. The Bison scored the game-winning touchdown with 53 second left on the clock and held off the ensuing Privateer drive for the victory. With the loss, Maritime ends the season with a 6-4 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the ECFC, while the Bison also move to 6-4 overall and finish third in the conference with a 3-2 mark.

Caroline Hickey
Women's Swimming
Maritime College junior Caroline Hickey captured the top spot in two races in a meet against Skyline Conference opponents Old Westbury and St. Joseph’s Tuesday night. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34.26, five seconds faster than the next swimmer. She then won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.41. Hickey was also part of a 200-yard medley relay team that came in second with a time of 2:14.64.

Men's Lacrosse
Maritime College freshman Benjamin Pearce won all three events he swam against Old Westbury Tuesday night: touching first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:22.46,
then the 100-yard free in 1:00.93, beating out his next closest competitor by almost 6 seconds in the short race, and then capping the night off by leading off the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 26.32, which led to a team-victory in 1:44.49.
