THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (June 7, 2010) – The history of Maritime football can be traced as far back as 1892 with two games against the Willet’s Point Engineers from Fort Totten, N.Y. The Privateers “Modern Day” history began in 2006 when the team officially joined the ranks of NCAA Division III. This spring, the football staff took an in depth look at the individual statistics and team accomplishments from the last 4 seasons and established a Modern Day Record Book.
“I would like thank Coach Mike Stroud and his family for spearheading this project,” commented head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes. “Coach Stroud’s wife, Taleen, really did most of the legwork by digging through past statistics and comparing and compiling each category. It’s an impressive document totaling almost 40 pages, so we definitely have a comprehensive overview of our team’s accomplishments.”
The record book is broken down into eight sections which show individual and team efforts, individual game, season and career records and national rankings. Also included is a section with the win-loss records from each season dating back to 1892. Ever wonder who has had the highest game of Total Offense or who is the career leader in Solo Tackles? What about the team’s highest national ranking in Kick-Off Coverage or Pass Defense? You can also find out who the coach of the team was on the team’s longest run as a club through the 1970’s and 1980’s.
“This record book is a benchmark for our program and I’m sure will lead to discussion and motivation for past, current and future players” Coach Kendrick-Holmes. “Next year we plan to dig a bit further into former coaches and players to document their contributions to the team’s history. As for next season, hopefully the 2010 team will significantly add to this history and break a bunch of these records!”
