THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 13, 2012) – Maritime junior starting pitcher
Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was named the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performances in two games last week.
The junior started two contests, the first against Baurch on Tuesday night, where he pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out seven in a no-decision before following that up with another start on Sunday, this against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, where he went seven innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out four. On the week, he had 11 strikeouts to just two walks, with a 1.38 ERA and kept opponents to just a .216 batting average.
Myers ranks third in the Skyline with a 1.17 ERA and sixth with an opponent's batting average of .203. Other Privateers that rank high on the Skyline lists are sophomore
Nicholas Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and junior
Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) who are fourth and sixth on the ERA list with 1.29 and 1.64, respectively. Sarna is tied for the league lead in wins with two, while his two complete games is also a conference high.
Offensively, junior
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Edmonds C.C.) ranks fourth in the conference in two categories with a .462 batting average and a .545 on-base percentage. Freshman
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) is third in the Skyline with .75 stolen bases per game, while his 1.00 walks per game is good for fifth and his .500 OBP ranks 10th. Senior
Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) ranks 10th with 1.13 RBIs per game, while freshman
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side)'s (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) .88 walks per game ranks eight.
As a team, the Privateers rank first in the Skyline Conference in team pitching with a 1.69 ERA and are sixth in the league with a .261 batting average.

The Privateers are back in action tomorrow night, March 14, when they play host to local Bronx-rival Lehman College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
